Founded during the Golden Age of Munich in 1976, MCM was born at a time of rebellion and creativity, where everything was being reinvented. MCM founder Michael Cromer Munchen, was in the heart of this creative culture, when he noticed how people were treated depending on their bags. After spotting a desire for modern luxury, the MCM suitcase was invented, when air travel was just starting to emerge, and high profile jet setters such as Mick Jagger, David Bowie and Freddie Mercury were flocking to Munich to be in the midst of the new culture.
Popular for their repetitive patterns, the 1990's saw the highest profile models including Cindy Crawford adorn the MCM bag, with Diana Ross even using MCM bags on her tour. The historic MCM logo contains a laurel, a diamond and the letters MCM, which are present on the temple of both MCM sunglasses and MCM glasses. As the Greek symbol for victory, the MCM logo can also be found upon a brass plate, symbolising value, strength and durability without compromise. Whilst the brand is recognised for their beribboned laurel logo, the letters MCM symbolise 1900 in Roman numerals, the birth of the modern age of travel.
To this day, MCM has not lost its high profile touch. Celebrities such as Ronaldo, Rihanna and Beyonce are all known to sport MCM sunglasses, glasses and bags. All MCM eyewear is inspired by its retro past, yet combines modern, high-end fashion with a touch of streetwear. The infamous repeated MCM logo pattern can be found upon selected arms and frame fronts, whilst the signature logo is embellished at the temple of a whole host of cool and collected designs.
