Giorgio Armani was born into an Italian-Armenian family in 1934. An unconventional route into fashion, Armani started off working at a military hospital, before meeting Sergio Galeotti – whom after seeing his initial menswear collection inspired Giorgio to open his own design studio in Milan. Developing a distinct collection, Armani founded his prestigious ready-to-wear collection in 1978, not looking back since. Armani’s work has become revered in the fashion industry – so much so that he was awarded Italy’s highest award, the Legion of Honour, in 2008.
