Founded in Austria and mastered in Italy, Carrera eyewear specialises in producing sunglasses and sports goggles. Inspired by the Carrera Panamericana race, Wilhelm Anger founded Carrera in 1956. Instantly hooked on eyewear, Anger produced and patented the material â€˜Optylâ€™, a plastic 20% lighter than the standard acetate, resistant to allergies to boot. After international prestige due to Formula 1 and the 1988 Winter Olympics, Carrera was purchased by Safilo and headquarters transferred to Padova, Italy, in 1996.
